What IELTS costs in rupees at the British Council and AEO, why Lahore pays more than Karachi, how to pay with JazzCash, EasyPaisa, HBL or a card, and how not to pay it twice.
How much is the IELTS exam fee in Pakistan?
As of 22 September 2026, these are the fees on AEO Pakistan's published list. AEO is IDP's test partner in Pakistan. The British Council lists PKR 75,600 for IELTS on Computer in Islamabad, effective 9 June 2026, which matches AEO's figure for the same city.

Fees moved in June 2026 and can move again with the exchange rate, so confirm the figure in the booking portal before you pay. Paper-based IELTS is no longer offered in Pakistan.
What other charges can come up?
The test fee is the whole price of sitting the test. These charges appear only when something goes wrong, and one of them is large enough to plan around:

How do I pay: JazzCash, EasyPaisa, HBL or card?
At AEO, the booking portal gives you a KuickPay, 1Bill or AbhiPay ID that you settle through EasyPaisa, JazzCash or internet banking, or you pay cash at any HBL branch. Credit cards work as well, with the 3 to 6 percent bank charge above. The British Council takes payment inside its own online booking. A few details catch candidates out:

British Council or AEO?
Both deliver the same test with the same examiners' training and the same band descriptors, so the choice is about venue and dates. AEO runs sessions across Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Multan, Hyderabad, Gujranwala and several smaller cities; the British Council tests in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi. When do results come out?
For IELTS on Computer the British Council releases results 3 to 5 calendar days after the test. You preview the band online and receive an electronic Test Report Form, which most universities and immigration bodies now accept directly.
How do I avoid paying PKR 75,600 twice?
Only book when your practice band already meets your target. The most common PKR 75,600 mistake in Pakistan is booking on hope: a candidate needing 6.5 for a UK or Australian offer books at a practice level of 5.5, falls short, and pays the whole fee again. Take full mock tests until your score is stable at or above target. If one section lets you down on test day, a One Skill Retake at PKR 47,630 to 48,050 within 60 days is cheaper than a full resit, as long as the organisation you are applying to accepts it. A month of unlimited AI-scored practice costs around 3% of one exam fee.

Why is the fee different in Lahore and Islamabad?
AEO prices its Punjab centres (Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, Burewala, Mandi Bahauddin) at PKR 76,240 and the rest of the country at PKR 75,600. The difference is PKR 640, so it is not worth travelling for. Book the city you can reach easily on both the written and the speaking date.
Is paper-based IELTS still available in Pakistan?
No. Both the British Council and AEO now deliver IELTS on computer only in Pakistan. You type your Listening, Reading and Writing answers at a test centre, and the Speaking test is still face to face with an examiner.
British Council or AEO: which should I book?
They deliver the same test with the same scoring, so choose by venue and dates. AEO is IDP’s partner in Pakistan and runs more cities; the British Council tests in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi. Universities and visa offices do not care which one your Test Report Form comes from.
Can I pay the IELTS fee with JazzCash or EasyPaisa?

Do I need a passport, or is a CNIC enough?
Either is accepted, but it must be the original, it must be valid on both test dates, and it must be the same document you used to book. An expired or missing ID means you are marked absent and the full fee is lost. Nothing else, not a driving licence, not a photocopy, will do.

What does One Skill Retake cost in Pakistan?
PKR 47,630 to 48,050 for a standard test and PKR 48,000 for UKVI, on AEO’s fee list. It lets you resit one section within 60 days, which is cheaper than a full PKR 75,600 resit but only if the organisation you are applying to accepts a One Skill Retake result. Ask them before you pay.
