IELTS Exam Fee in Uzbekistan (2026)
What IELTS costs in som at the British Council and IDP, why they differ since September, how to pay with Payme, Click, Uzcard or Humo, the ID-card name rule that gets candidates turned away, the under-31 refund, and how not to pay it twice.
How much is the IELTS exam fee in Uzbekistan?
As of 22 September 2026, these are the fees on the providers' own listings. The British Council raised its standard fee from UZS 2,664,000 to 2,798,000 in September 2026; IDP has not moved. Pages still quoting 2,639,000 or 2,664,000 are showing the old British Council fee.

How do I pay: Payme, Click, Uzcard or Humo?
British Council: Payme, Xazna, Click or Uzum, or a bank transfer or cash at a bank counter, within 3 days of registration and quoting the 15-digit reference beginning UZ, or the booking can be delayed or cancelled. IDP: Uzcard, Humo or an international Visa or Mastercard online when you register. Neither provider states a surcharge. A few details catch candidates out:

Where can I sit IELTS in Uzbekistan?
The British Council tests in Tashkent (where UKVI and Life Skills sittings run), Andijan, Fergana and Bukhara among about eleven cities. IDP, through Edu Action, tests in Tashkent with three slots a day, and in Samarkand, Bukhara, Jizzakh, Termez and Urgench, with Andijan, Fergana, Namangan, Navoi and Nukus on its booking list. Everything is on computer; paper was suspended in July 2025. Same test, same marking, so choose by venue, date and price, as in the British Council vs IDP comparison.
When do results come out?
1 to 5 days for IELTS on Computer, 13 days for UKVI and 7 days for Life Skills, viewable online with an electronic Test Report Form. A re-mark is answered in anything from two hours to 21 days.
How do I avoid paying UZS 2,665,000 twice?
Only book when your practice band already meets your target. The most common mistake in Uzbekistan is booking on hope: a candidate needing 6.5 for a scholarship or a UK offer books at a practice level of 5.5, falls short, and pays the whole fee again, with nothing back inside IDP's five-week window. Take full mock tests until your score is stable at or above target. If one section lets you down on test day, ask the centre what a One Skill Retake costs and whether your destination accepts it before you pay for a full resit. And if you are under 31, a 7.0 gets the whole fee back through my.gov.uz, which is one more reason to sit it once, ready. A month of unlimited AI-scored practice costs about 3% of one exam fee.

IELTS on Computer (Academic or General Training) costs UZS 2,798,000 at the British Council, after a rise of about 5% in September 2026, and UZS 2,665,000 at IDP, which tests through Edu Action. IELTS for UKVI is UZS 3,119,000 and IELTS Life Skills UZS 2,759,000, both at the British Council only.
Is IELTS cheaper at IDP or the British Council in Uzbekistan?
IDP, by UZS 133,000, since the British Council’s September rise and IDP’s unchanged price. Same test, same marking. The British Council is the only choice for UKVI and Life Skills, and it publishes its refund and re-mark terms; IDP has more session slots in Tashkent, three a day.
Can I pay with Payme or Click?
At the British Council, yes: its booking page lists Payme, Xazna, Click and Uzum, as well as bank transfer or cash at a bank counter, and payment has to be completed within 3 days of registration quoting the 15-digit reference that starts with UZ. IDP takes Uzcard, Humo or an international Visa or Mastercard online at registration.
Passport or ID card?
Either, valid at booking and on test day, and the same original document both times. The trap is the name: it must match the document exactly, apostrophes included (Oʻ, Gʻ), and the Latin spelling on the ID card often differs from the passport. If you are applying abroad, the British Council recommends registering with the international passport so the Test Report Form matches your application.
Is paper-based IELTS still available in Uzbekistan?
No. Paper sittings were suspended on 11 July 2025 after test papers leaked, and paper-based IELTS ended worldwide in mid-2026. Every centre in the country lists computer sittings only.
Can I get the fee back if I score 7.0?
Citizens under 31 who score 7.0 or above can claim a full refund of the fee through my.gov.uz within 180 days of the certificate, under the scheme reported by Spot on 24 August 2026. Check the current conditions on my.gov.uz before you rely on it; it is a government programme, not a provider one.
What if I need to change or cancel my date?
IDP: one free transfer with five or more weeks’ notice to a date within three months, by email or in person; cancelling five or more weeks out returns the fee minus 25%, and inside five weeks nothing without evidence within 5 days. British Council: a free computer-test date change up to two weeks before, and cancellation with at least two weeks’ notice returns the fee minus a 25% administration fee, paid in four to six weeks.
