IELTS Exam Fee in Vietnam (2026)
What IELTS costs in dong at IDP and the British Council, what the 8% VAT price means for 2027, how to pay with a card, a bank transfer or MoMo, the one-document ID rule, and how not to pay it twice.
How much is the IELTS exam fee in Vietnam?
As of 22 September 2026, these are the fees on IDP Vietnam's own page, which states that they include 8% VAT and run until 31 December 2026. The British Council's centre listings confirm the same VND 4,664,000 for the standard test.

What other charges can come up?
The test fee is the whole price of sitting the test. These charges, all from IDP's published list, appear only when something changes:

How do I pay: card, bank transfer or MoMo?
IDP: at booking, a Visa, Mastercard or JCB card, or internet banking and QR payment with a domestic ATM card from more than 26 banks; MoMo works by scanning IDP's QR code. Or book now and pay later in cash or by card at an IDP office, or by transfer to its HSBC account in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi or Da Nang, with your full name, test date, phone number and ID number in the note so the payment can be matched. British Council: Visa or Mastercard online, or book now and pay by transfer or at the office. Neither provider states a surcharge. A few details catch candidates out:

Where can I sit IELTS in Vietnam?
IDP runs computer sittings seven days a week in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Hai Phong, and regular sessions in Da Nang, Can Tho, Nha Trang, Vinh, Thanh Hoa, Thai Nguyen, Ha Long, Quang Ngai, Buon Ma Thuot, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Vung Tau and more. The British Council tests in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Hue, Nha Trang and Can Tho. Paper-based IELTS ended in Vietnam after 29 March 2025 and there is no Writing on Paper option, so every sitting is on computer with a face-to-face Speaking test. When do results come out?
At IDP most results are ready within 2 days and all within 5. British Council venues quote 3 to 5 days. You receive one Test Report Form, which is not reissued if lost, and an online transcript you can export free.
How do I avoid paying VND 4,664,000 twice?
Only book when your practice band already meets your target. The most common mistake in Vietnam is booking on hope: a candidate needing 6.5 for a scholarship or an Australian offer books at a practice level of 5.5, falls short, and pays the whole fee again. Take full mock tests until your score is stable at or above target. If one section lets you down on test day, a One Skill Retake at VND 2,940,000 within 60 days is cheaper than a full resit, as long as the organisation you are applying to accepts it. A month of unlimited AI-scored practice costs under 4% of one exam fee.

Is IELTS cheaper at IDP or the British Council in Vietnam?
The standard test costs the same VND 4,664,000 at both. The British Council’s other charges could not be confirmed on its own site, so compare its UKVI, re-mark and transfer fees on its booking page before you assume they match IDP’s.
Can I pay with MoMo or a bank transfer?
Yes, at IDP. You can pay at booking with a Visa, Mastercard or JCB card, or through internet banking or a QR code with a domestic ATM card, or scan IDP’s QR code in MoMo. You can also pay later in cash or by card at an IDP office, or transfer to its HSBC account in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi or Da Nang with your full name, test date, phone number and ID number in the transfer note. The British Council takes cards online, or a transfer or office payment after booking.
Which ID do I need: CCCD, CMND or passport?
Any of the three for Vietnamese citizens; foreign nationals must use a passport. It has to be the original, valid on the test day and when you collect the result, and exactly the document you registered with. A torn, laminated or altered card is refused. To switch documents, tell IDP at least 5 days before the written test (the British Council asks for 2 working days).
Is paper-based IELTS still available in Vietnam?
No. Both providers ended paper tests after 29 March 2025. Listening, Reading and Writing are typed at a test centre and Speaking is face to face with an examiner. Vietnam has no Writing on Paper option.
