Practice IELTS Speaking with an AI Examiner
No study partner to find and no session to book. Sit a full Speaking session (interview, cue card and discussion) and get instant scores for fluency, pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary.
How does AI IELTS speaking practice work?
You speak; the examiner listens, responds and scores. A full session mirrors the real 11–14 minute test:
| Part | Format | Timing |
|---|---|---|
| Part 1: Interview | Questions about you: home, work, studies, interests | 4–5 min |
| Part 2: Cue card | 1 minute to prepare, up to 2 minutes speaking | 3–4 min |
| Part 3: Discussion | Deeper follow-up questions on your Part 2 topic | 4–5 min |
Afterwards you get a transcript and band-style scores aligned to the four official criteria (Fluency & Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Range & Accuracy, and Pronunciation), with the exact moments that pulled a score down.
What does the AI measure in my speech?
- Fluency: speaking rate, pauses, and filler words (“um”, “like”, “you know”) counted from your audio
- Pronunciation: sound- and stress-level patterns, not just an overall impression
- Grammar: tense control, complex structures attempted vs played safe
- Vocabulary: range, collocation, and topic-specific word choice
Because every session is scored the same way, your progress chart means something: you can watch filler words fall and complex-sentence usage rise week over week instead of guessing whether you are improving.
Why is Speaking the hardest skill to practise alone?
Because you cannot hear yourself the way an examiner does. Reading and Listening have answer keys; Writing leaves a text you can review. Speaking vanishes as you produce it, and without feedback you rehearse your existing mistakes. An AI examiner closes that loop: it captures what you said, shows you the transcript, and tells you what an examiner would have marked down, immediately, every single time you practise.
Frequently asked questions
How can I practise IELTS Speaking online for free?
IELTSLab’s Free plan includes one AI Speaking session every week: the examiner asks real Part 1, 2 and 3 questions, listens to your answers, and returns band-style scores for fluency, pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary, with no partner, booking or card required.
Does the AI examiner cover all three parts of the Speaking test?
Yes. Part 1 interview questions, the Part 2 cue card with one minute of preparation and up to two minutes of speaking, and Part 3 follow-up discussion questions that probe your Part 2 topic, the same flow as the real 11–14 minute test.
What does the speaking feedback include?
A transcript of what you said, scores aligned to the four official criteria (Fluency and Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Range and Accuracy, Pronunciation), plus specifics: filler-word frequency, pacing, pronunciation patterns and grammar slips pulled from your own answers.
Is practising with an AI better than practising with a partner?
They solve different problems. A partner gives you human conversation but usually cannot score you against IELTS criteria or catch pronunciation patterns. The AI examiner is available at 2 a.m., never runs out of questions, scores every session consistently, and tracks your progress. Most candidates do both when they can.
Will speaking to an AI feel like the real test?
The session follows real exam structure and timing, and the examiner speaks in a natural British accent. The goal is that the first time you sit the real test, the format, pacing and pressure all feel familiar.
