Like the real exam, the four sections climb from everyday conversation to an academic lecture, and the audio never repeats. Band 7.5 calibration means a candidate targeting band 7.5 should score about 30/40 here on a good day.

How should you approach a band-7.5 listening test?

Band-7.5 material uses academic vocabulary in Section 4 and near-native pacing throughout. What separates a 7 from a 7.5 here is precision under pressure: plurals, hyphenated words, the spelling of semi-technical terms ("questionnaire", "accommodation"). At this level you should be reviewing every lost mark by transcript to classify it: mishearing, misreading, or misspelling, each needing a different fix.

Why practice with a mixed accent?

Mixed-accent tests switch speakers between sections, exactly like the real exam: a British receptionist in Section 1, an Australian lecturer in Section 4. The skill trained is fast recalibration: the first ten seconds of each new speaker is where mixed-accent tests take their marks.

Try a sample question first

Multiple choice. Choose the correct letter, A, B or C.

Audio: Student: "I expected the fieldwork to be the hard part, but honestly the ethics approval took longer than the data collection and the write-up combined."

Question: What surprised the student most? (A) the fieldwork (B) the approval process (C) the write-up

Answer: B. "Ethics approval" must map to "approval process" while "expected... to be the hard part" eliminates A. Mixed accents plus paraphrase: the full band-7.5 package.
